One card, two places

On the bus. A card reader is fitted on the handrail. Students scan their ID or RFID card when they board and when they alight, and the in and out are logged against the route. The attendance reaches the school system and the parent app.

On campus. Readers at the school gate or in classrooms record presence on the school grounds. Where a school wants students to walk through without stopping, we use UHF tags instead of cards. That has its own page: UHF attendance for school gates and classrooms.

Who sees what

PersonWhat they get
ParentsAn attendance view and pickup and drop reminders in the parent app. SMS or app alerts where the school enables them (terms may apply).
Driver or attendantAn in and out report, the list of assigned students, and an attendant attendance mark in the driver app.
Transport managerRFID attendance on the central live dashboard.
School adminReports by class, grade or date, ready for school systems.

What changes for the school office

  • No paper register to fill in on the bus or at the gate.
  • A live view of who is present or absent as it happens.
  • Reports that are generated for you, instead of typed up later.
  • Visibility of students entering and leaving school grounds or the bus.

Made in India, supplied and fitted by Satcop

Satcop India, founded in 2009, designs and manufactures tracking hardware in India. For attendance, we supply and install the readers on your buses and campus, and connect them to the same Smart Bus platform that carries live bus tracking. The school and the transport manager then see bus location and attendance in one place. See the full school bus tracking solution.

A note on state rules

Some state transport rules ask schools and bus operators to keep a daily attendance record of students who travel on school buses. Rules differ by state and change, so ask your RTO or transport department what applies to your school. We do not say that any attendance set-up meets those rules by itself, and we do not state a rule or a date on this page.

Questions to ask before you buy any RFID attendance system

  • Which places get a reader: the bus, the gate, the classroom?
  • Will the school's existing ID card work, or is a new card needed?
  • How is a forgotten card handled on the day?
  • In which reports does attendance reach the school's own software?
  • What can a parent see, and is there a charge for alerts?
  • Who may open student records, and how is access controlled?
  • Does the quote itemise cards, readers, fitting, support and GST?

Frequently asked questions

How does RFID attendance work on a school bus?

A card reader is mounted on the bus handrail. Students scan their ID or RFID card when they board or alight, and the in and out are logged against the route. The record goes to the school system and the parent app.

Do students need a special card?

RFID or UHF credentials are often built into the ID card. We confirm with your school at the demo what would be used.

Can the same system work at the school gate?

Yes. Readers can be placed at school gates or classrooms. For walk-through detection without a tap, see our UHF attendance page.

Can parents see their child's attendance?

Parents get an attendance view in the parent app. SMS or app alerts are sent where the school enables them, and terms may apply.

Does an RFID reader replace the bus attendant?

No. A reader records card scans. It does not supervise children, and we do not say it replaces an attendant.

What if a child forgets the card?

Our product pages do not state how this is handled. Ask us at the demo, and ask any other seller the same question.

How much does RFID attendance cost?

Ask for a quote. A good quote lists the cards, readers, installation, support and GST.
