Why schools look at UHF for the gate
A gate is where a queue forms. If every child has to stop and tap a card, mornings slow down. UHF is built for the opposite case: the child keeps walking and the reader does the work. That is the reason we offer it at school gates and classrooms, and keep the tap-on-a-reader card for the bus, where a child boards one at a time.
From tag to record in three steps
- Tags. Each student carries an RFID or UHF credential. It is often built into the school ID card.
- Readers. Satcop supplies and installs the readers at the school gate and/or in classrooms.
- Records. Presence appears in real time for school admins. Optional alerts can go to parents, and reports go to the school system.
UHF at the gate, RFID card on the bus
Both belong to one attendance system. The difference is where it is used.
| UHF tag | RFID card | |
|---|---|---|
| Where | School gate or classroom | Handrail reader on the school bus |
| How it counts a student | Reader detects the tag as the student passes | Student taps the card when boarding or alighting |
| Manual step | None at the entrance | One tap per student |

Designed and made in India, installed for you
Satcop India, founded in 2009, designs and manufactures tracking hardware in India. For attendance, we supply and install the readers on your campus and buses and connect them to the same Smart Bus platform, so the transport manager and the school office work from one system. Questions to ask before you buy any UHF system
- Will the readers stand at the gate, in classrooms, or at both?
- Can the tag live inside the ID card students already wear?
- How does the school handle a student who arrives without a tag?
- Which reports reach the school office, and how do they get into your own software?
- Will parents be alerted, and does the school pay extra for SMS?
- Who is allowed to open student records, and how is that controlled?
- Does the quote spell out readers, tags, fitting, support and GST?
Our product pages do not state the reading range of a reader or how many tags it can read at one moment. We would rather show you at a demo than put a number on a page.
Frequently asked questions
What is a UHF attendance system?
It is an attendance system where a reader detects a UHF tag automatically as a student walks by, so nobody has to tap a card or call out names. Satcop uses UHF readers at school gates or classrooms.
How is UHF different from an RFID card?
With an RFID card, the student taps the card on a reader, as on the Satcop handrail reader on a school bus. With UHF, the reader detects the tag as the student passes. Both are part of the same Satcop attendance system.
Can UHF attendance be used on the school bus?
On the bus, Satcop uses an RFID card reader on the handrail, where students scan their card when they board or alight. UHF is used on campus, at gates and classrooms.
Can parents get UHF attendance alerts?
Parents get an attendance view in the parent app. SMS or app alerts are sent where the school enables them, and terms may apply.
Where are the readers placed?
At school gates or classrooms. We confirm the right places for your campus at the demo.
How much does a UHF attendance system cost?
Ask for a quote. A good quote lists the readers, tags, installation, support and GST.
