RFID and UHF attendance for staff, drivers and fleets
Last checked: 9 October 2026. Satcop India designs, makes and installs RFID card readers and UHF tag readers in India. The reader types below are the ones on our smart attendance pages; the exact set-up for your site is confirmed on the demo.
Quick answer
An RFID attendance system records who is present when a person taps a card on a reader. A UHF system reads a tag from a distance as the person walks past, with no tap. Satcop supplies both. For workplaces and fleets, that means card readers in staff vehicles or at a desk, UHF readers at a gate, and one live record that your admin team can report on.
RFID or UHF: which fits where
| RFID card | UHF tag | |
|---|---|---|
| How a person is counted | Taps the card on a reader | Reader detects the tag as the person passes |
| Where it works well | Inside a vehicle, at a desk or a small entrance, where people arrive one at a time | Gates and wide entrances, where queues form |
| Manual step | One tap per person | None at the entrance |
| Credential | Often built into the staff ID card | Often built into the ID card or a tag |
Where fleets and companies use it
- Staff buses and cabs: employees tap in and out on a card reader, and the record sits alongside the vehicle's GPS trip. See employee transport tracking.
- Drivers and helpers: a card shows who was on the vehicle for each trip, which helps when you review a route or an incident.
- Factory and warehouse gates: UHF readers mark people as they walk through, without a queue at shift change.
- Depots and yards: one record of who arrived and when, across sites.
What the admin team gets
Presence appears in real time, and reports can be generated by date and by group instead of being typed up from a paper register. Because the readers connect to the same Satcop platform as the fleet tracking device, a transport manager can see where a vehicle was and who was on it in one place.
Questions to settle before you buy
- Where will the readers go: vehicles, gates, desks or all three?
- Can the tag live inside the ID card your staff already carry?
- What happens when someone forgets their card?
- Which reports does HR or payroll need, and in which format?
- Who installs the readers and who supports them afterwards?

Questions
What is the difference between RFID and UHF attendance?
With RFID, a person taps a card on a reader. With UHF, a reader detects a tag automatically as the person passes, with no tap.
Can staff tap in on a company bus or cab?
Yes. A card reader can be fitted in the vehicle, and the attendance record sits alongside the vehicle's GPS trip in the same platform.
Can UHF readers work at a factory gate?
Yes. UHF readers suit gates and wide entrances because people do not have to stop and tap. Your exact set-up is confirmed on the demo.
Can the card be our existing staff ID?
Often, yes. The RFID or UHF credential is commonly built into the ID card. Ask us on the demo whether your current cards can be used.
Is this the same system schools use?
The readers come from the same Satcop range. For schools and school buses, see My School Ride, our school bus product.
How much does an RFID staff attendance system cost?
Ask for a quote. It depends on the number of readers, cards or tags, the locations and installation.
