School bus GPS tracker price: what decides the cost

We do not publish a rate card, because two schools rarely need the same thing. Here is what goes into a school bus GPS tracker quote, so you can compare offers fairly.

Why there is no single price

"How much is a school bus GPS tracker?" sounds like a simple question. In practice, the tracker is only one part of what a school pays for. A quote can cover devices on each bus, installation, the SIM and data that keep the tracker online, the software and apps, attendance readers, cameras, storage for footage, and support over the term of the contract. A school that wants live GPS on ten buses has a very different quote from a school that wants GPS, RFID, cameras and gate readers on sixty.

That is why Satcop quotes each school separately. This page lists the factors so you know what to ask for, and can compare quotes line by line.

The main cost drivers

FactorWhy it changes the price
Number of busesEach bus needs its own device, installation and connectivity.
Parts per busGPS only, or GPS plus an RFID reader, cameras and a dashcam.
Cameras per busLonger buses may need a second dome camera. Driver monitoring and two-way audio are optional extras.
Footage storageCloud, on-device or both, and how long recordings are kept.
Live camera feedA live 4G feed uses more data and depends on the package.
Campus readersThe number of UHF readers at gates and classrooms.
Cards and tagsWhether existing ID cards can carry the RFID chip, or new cards and tags are needed.
InstallationBus types, wiring and the number of sites to visit.
Software and appsWhich apps and features are included, and for how many users.
AlertsWhether SMS alerts to parents are included or charged separately.
Support termThe length of the contract and the support level.
TaxesGST should be shown as its own line.

One-time costs and recurring costs

Most quotes mix two kinds of cost. One-time costs usually cover devices, readers, cameras and installation. Recurring costs usually cover connectivity, software, storage and support. When you compare two offers, put them side by side over the same period, say the full term you expect to use the system. A low device price with high recurring charges can cost more over time than the other way round. Ask every seller to split their quote this way.

Questions that avoid surprises

  1. Is the GPS device bought or rented, and who owns it at the end of the contract?
  2. Is the SIM and data plan included, and for how long?
  3. Which parent alerts are included, and are SMS charged extra?
  4. Is the live camera feed included, or only recorded footage?
  5. What does support cover: replacement of faulty devices, re-installation when a bus is replaced, training for new staff?
  6. What happens to the price if the school adds buses mid-year?
  7. Does the quote list devices, installation, software, support and GST separately?

What you get from Satcop

Satcop India designs and manufactures its tracking hardware in India and installs it itself. A Satcop system can include:

  • A 4G GPS tracker with about 5-second location refresh and fallback tracking when the signal dips.
  • Parent, driver/attendant, transport manager and admin apps.
  • An RFID card reader on the bus and optional UHF gate readers.
  • Optional dome cameras and dashcams, with cloud and/or on-device storage.
  • Installation by Satcop, training for the transport team, and WhatsApp and on-call support.

The live camera feed and some alerts depend on the school package. We confirm what is included at the demo and in the written quote.

How to get an accurate quote quickly

Send us the city, the number of buses, the bus types if you know them, and the parts you want. If you are not sure, tell us what problem you want to solve, such as parent calls, attendance or incidents on the bus, and we will suggest a starting set. We usually show the system at a demo first, then send a written, itemised quote.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a school bus GPS tracker cost?

We quote each school separately, because the price depends on the number of buses, the parts chosen, cameras, storage, installation, software and the support term. Use the form on this page to get a quote.

Why do you not publish prices?

Two schools rarely need the same set-up. A written quote for your buses and parts is more useful than a list price that leaves out installation, connectivity or support.

What should a school bus GPS quote include?

The devices, installation, SIM and data, software and apps, any readers and cameras, storage, alerts, support and GST, each as a separate line.

Can we start with GPS and add RFID or cameras later?

Many schools start with GPS and the apps. Ask us at the demo how adding RFID readers or cameras later would work for your buses.

Is installation included?

Satcop supplies and installs the devices. The written quote shows installation as its own line.
