GPS vehicle tracking system in Chennai for port, plant and staff fleets
Last checked: 10 October 2026. Satcop India designs and makes the trackers on this page; specifications are from our website. We are headquartered in Pune and travel to Chennai for demos.
Chennai's three freight corridors
Chennai's vehicles cluster around three kinds of work. Container trailers shuttle between Chennai Port, Kamarajar Port at Ennore and the container freight stations and warehouses to the north and west of the city. The automotive and electronics belt at Sriperumbudur, Oragadam and along the Chennai–Bengaluru highway runs supplier trucks and plant buses to tight schedules, while the older industrial estates at Ambattur and Guindy keep a steady flow of smaller vans moving. And the IT corridor on Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR) depends on staff cabs working in shifts.
Heavy rain during the north-east monsoon can turn a short trip into a long one, which is exactly when dispatchers most need to see where each vehicle actually is.
Port and plant logistics
For trailers, geofences do most of the work. Mark the port gate, a CFS yard and the consignee's dock, and the software logs every entry and exit, so turnaround time becomes a number on a report instead of a guess. The GPS tracker for trucks refreshes roughly every 10 seconds and shows ignition status and stop time. The in-house DS8888/BS8888 device adds overspeed and tamper alerts, keeps up to about 15 hours of data in local memory and has a 6 to 8 hour backup battery.
Plants in the Sriperumbudur–Oragadam belt use the same geofences for milk runs: each supplier and the plant gate become checkpoints, and the history shows which leg is late most often. A fuel level sensor adds tank level for diesel trucks.
OMR staff transport
Transport desks for IT companies need every cab on one live map, an overspeed alert, an SOS notification and a trip history for complaints about late pickups. See employee transport tracking for how Satcop sets this up, and dashcams for fleets for a cabin and road record. For electric cabs, EV fleet management adds charging and energy views.
AIS 140 in Chennai
Passenger vehicles and some goods vehicles registered in Tamil Nadu may be asked to carry a vehicle location tracking device built to AIS 140. Whether yours is one depends on its category and permit, so please confirm with your RTO. Satcop's AIS 140 GPS tracker is designed to meet AIS 140 standards, with GPS, GLONASS and IRNSS (GAGAN) support and an SOS/panic input.
Where we cover in and around Chennai
Our Chennai coverage takes in the port side at Royapuram and Ennore, the Manali and Madhavaram container yards, the Ambattur and Guindy estates, the Sriperumbudur–Oragadam auto belt and the OMR and GST Road corridors down to Chengalpattu. Vehicles parked in Tiruvallur or Kanchipuram districts can be fitted in the same visit plan.
Installation in Chennai is done by a field team that travels from our Hyderabad office in Gachibowli, the nearer of our two offices. Trucks are usually fitted at your yard between trips, and wiring for fuel sensors is done with the vehicle switched off and the tank checked. After go-live, Chennai customers get support on WhatsApp and phone, and remote help with geofences, users and reports.
Things Chennai fleet owners usually check first
- Whether the yard has covered space for fitting during north-east monsoon showers.
- How many trailers come back to the yard on the same day, so they can be fitted in one round.
- Who in the office will own the geofences for the port gate and the CFS.
How a Chennai demo works
- Tell us your vehicle count, the mix of trailers, trucks, vans or cabs, and where they are based.
- We fix a date and our team travels to your office, plant or yard in Chennai.
- We show the device, live map, geofences and reports.
- You receive a written quote: device, data plan, software, installation, support and GST. We do not publish prices.
Chennai fleet questions
Can I measure trailer turnaround time at the port?
Yes. Put geofences around the port gate, the CFS yard and the consignee's site, and the software records each entry and exit with a time stamp.
Do you track staff cabs on OMR?
Yes. Cabs appear on the live map with overspeed and SOS alerts and a stored trip history. See employee transport tracking.
What happens when a truck loses network?
The Satcop fleet tracking device keeps data in local memory for up to about 15 hours and has a 6 to 8 hour internal backup battery. The trip fills in on the map when the signal returns.
Does my Chennai taxi need an AIS 140 device?
It depends on the vehicle category and permit. Please ask your RTO. Satcop's AIS 140 GPS tracker is designed to meet AIS 140 standards.
How much does vehicle tracking in Chennai cost?
Ask for a quote. It depends on the number of vehicles, the device, any sensors or cameras, the data plan and installation.
Which office handles installation for Chennai fleets?
Our field team travels from the Hyderabad office in Gachibowli, and fits devices at your yard on an agreed date. Satcop has no office in Chennai.
Can trailers parked near Ennore and trucks at Oragadam be fitted in one visit plan?
Yes. Share both locations and vehicle counts, and we plan the fitting days around when the vehicles are back at each yard.
How do Chennai customers get help after installation?
Support runs on WhatsApp and phone, and changes such as new geofences, users or report schedules are made remotely.
