School bus GPS tracking for Chandigarh tricity schools
Chandigarh is planned in neat sectors, but a tricity school route often runs through Mohali, Panchkula or Zirakpur as well. One bus can cross three administrations before the first bell.
Sectors, roundabouts and the tricity
Inside Chandigarh, sector roads and roundabouts make routes easy to draw. The difficulty is everything around the city. Families now live in Mohali, New Chandigarh, Kharar, Panchkula and Zirakpur, and schools draw students from all of them. Morning traffic builds at the entry points from Zirakpur and on the Mohali side, and a bus that is on time inside the sectors can lose ten minutes at one junction outside them.
With the bus visible every few seconds, parents in a Mohali phase or a Panchkula sector can see whether the delay is at the city edge or closer to home.
Foggy winters, early summers
The tricity gets foggy winter mornings and hot summers, and schools often adjust their hours with the season. Timing changes are easy to share through announcements in the transport manager app, and arrival alerts about 2 km out let parents time the walk to the stop instead of waiting in the cold.
Built for a planned city
- Sector-wise stops. Stops are pinned on the map and grouped by sector, which suits the way tricity parents describe where they live.
- Bus allocation. When a family moves from Panchkula to Mohali, the transport manager can move the student to another bus from the dashboard.
- Visited and missed stops. The dashboard shows which stops a bus has visited and which it has missed on each trip.
- Document reminders. The admin console sends alerts before vehicle documents expire, useful for fleets registered in different places.
Boards across three areas
CBSE schools are common across the tricity, and schools in Mohali and Panchkula may also follow the Punjab or Haryana state board, with some ICSE schools in the mix. Whatever the board, the parent app, driver app and dashboard work the same way.
Attendance from bus to classroom
Many tricity schools want one record of the whole journey. An RFID reader on the bus logs boarding, and UHF readers at the gate log arrival at school without a queue. Together they show the office whether a child who got on the bus also entered the campus. Our blog post on designing one attendance flow goes into the details.
A sample plan for a Mohali-side school
A school in one of the Mohali phases with routes to Chandigarh sectors, Kharar and Zirakpur might fit trackers and RFID readers on every bus, add a dashcam on the buses that use the busiest junctions, and use the first month of trip history to rebalance the Zirakpur route. We agree the actual scope with you after the demo.
