Fleet telematics: devices, data and decisions on one platform

Commercial fleet on the Satcop telematics platform

Telematics is the combination of telecommunications and informatics: devices in vehicles collect data, send it over mobile networks, and software turns it into something a fleet owner can act on. For a transporter, that means knowing where each vehicle is, how it is being driven, how much fuel it uses and when it needs attention, without calling the driver.

Satcop India has designed and built telematics hardware in Pune since 2009. Our fleet platform connects our own devices so data flows from the vehicle to your screen without mixing vendors.

The building blocks

Tracking device. A wired GPS unit reports position, ignition status and movement. Choose a standard unit from our fleet tracking device range, or one designed to meet AIS 140 standards for permit-bound commercial vehicles (AIS 140 GPS tracker).

Fuel sensors. Tank sensors measure level changes, so refuels and sudden drops show up on the timeline. Wired and wireless options are on fuel sensor and wireless fuel level sensor.

Cameras. A fleet dashcam records the road and the cab, useful when a claim or dispute arises.

Software. The platform brings everything together: live map, trip history, fuel graphs, alerts and automated reports, on web and mobile. See fleet tracking and fuel monitoring software.

What fleet owners do with the data

  • Dispatch with facts. See which vehicle is closest to a new job instead of phoning around.
  • Cut idle time. Engine-on, vehicle-stopped periods show clearly by vehicle and driver.
  • Spot fuel loss. Fuel level data next to trip data makes unexplained drops visible.
  • Coach drivers. Harsh braking and harsh acceleration events point to who needs a word.
  • Plan maintenance. Distance and engine hours help schedule servicing before a breakdown.
  • Answer customers. Share trip status or delivery history when a client asks.

Industries we serve

Why one vendor for device and software

When the tracker comes from one company and the software from another, every fault becomes a debate about whose problem it is. With Satcop, the hardware, firmware and platform come from the same team, so support has one owner.

Getting started

  1. Share your fleet size, vehicle types and main goal (fuel, theft, dispatch, customer reporting).
  2. We suggest a device and sensor mix and a platform plan.
  3. Installation at your yard by our team or trained partners.
  4. Account setup, user roles and training.
  5. Review after the first month to tune reports and alerts.

What to compare between telematics providers

  • Does the provider make its own hardware or resell?
  • How does the device behave in low-network areas?
  • Can fuel, camera and tracking data be seen together?
  • Which reports are included, and can they be scheduled?
  • Who handles installation and after-sales service in your region?

A day in the life of a telematics-equipped fleet

At 6 AM the fleet manager opens the dashboard and sees which trucks have started and which have not. A customer calls about a delivery, and the live map answers in seconds. Mid-morning, an alert shows a fuel level drop on a parked vehicle; the trip and fuel graphs together show it happened at a stop that was not on the plan, so the manager calls the driver straight away. By evening, the daily report lists distance, idle hours and harsh-driving events for each vehicle. On Friday, the maintenance planner sorts vehicles by distance since last service and books three into the workshop.

None of this needs extra staff. It needs devices that report reliably and software that puts the right fact in front of the right person.

Scaling from ten vehicles to hundreds

Small fleets often start with tracking alone. As the business grows, fuel sensors, cameras and more user roles can be added to the same account. Branch managers can see only their region while head office sees everything.

Measuring the return

Set a baseline before installation: monthly fuel spend, idle hours if known, breakdown counts and the time staff spend chasing vehicle status. Compare the same figures after three months on the platform. Telematics pays off through many small gains rather than one dramatic change, and having your own before-and-after numbers is the clearest way to judge it.

Frequently asked questions

What is fleet telematics?

Devices in vehicles that collect location, engine and sensor data and send it to software, so fleet owners can monitor and manage vehicles remotely.

Is telematics the same as GPS tracking?

GPS tracking is one part. Telematics also covers fuel, driving behaviour, cameras and reporting.

Can I add fuel sensors to existing trackers?

Usually, if the tracker is one of ours. Our team checks compatibility during the survey.

Is there a mobile app?

Yes. The platform works on web and mobile.

Do you make your own hardware?

Yes. Satcop designs and manufactures its tracking hardware in India.
